Sensors for Healthcare, Biomedical Applications and Food Safety
Micro-electrode arrays offer great promise for the development of biosensors for monitoring ethical drugs, drugs of abuse, and biomarkers for diseases such as carcinoma, transient ischemic attacks (strokes) and microbial infection.
The attached papers for download illustrate the range of applications to which micro-electrode based biosensors may be developed.

Homeland Security and Environmental Air Quality Applications
One of the advantages that micro-electrodes and microelectrode arrays offer is to allow the determination of trace chemicals with lowered limits of detection – this offers many advantages for the determination of for example explosives or airborne toxins for homeland security purposes. Micro-electrode arrays can in this context be coupled with air-borne cyclone systems such for continuous air monitoring.

Micro-electrode arrays are ideal for the determination of trace pollutants such as pesticides due to the lowered limits of detection they offer as detailed within the papers:
In one example, Paraxon, an organophosphate pesticide was determined down to the level of 10-17M using a bespoke flow injection analyser (FIA) as seen below.
As a generic enabling technology our microelectrode sensor manufacturing technique is applicable to sensor technologies for many diverse applications including:
